St. George (275/281–303 AD), born in Lydda, Syria Palaestina, was a soldier in the Roman army. He is immortalized in the myth of St. George and the Dragon and is one of the Fourteen Holy Helpers. He is invoked for the protection from snakes.
Reflection: Christ is for all. We cannot restrict his salvation to few selected groups. He shows no partiality (Acts 10:34). He gives his Spirit to all who call upon him (Lk 11:13). In the first reading we hear the witnessing of Peter regarding how he was convinced about the universality of the salvation through Jesus Christ. The challenge of the early Church was to think beyond the boundaries of existing religious systems. The same challenge exists today as well: to think beyond the boundaries of cast, colour, regions etc. Jesus is the door that opens towards the Father and to the eternity. The attitude of division comes from the Evil one. Are we conscious about the different ways the devil saws the seeds of division in the Church and in our own families and communities.
