St. Anselm (1033–1109), was a Benedictine monk, philosopher, and prelate of the Church, who held the office of Archbishop of Canterbury from 1093 to 1109. He is called the founder of scholasticism; he is well known as the originator of the ontological argument for the existence of God.
Reflection: Jesus is the Word of eternal life. The way and door to eternity is narrow. To live a life oriented towards eternity is hard and challenging. Therefore many give up their pursuit on the way especially at the moments of great struggles and demands. A life according to the desires of the flesh is useless and powerless (Jn 6:63). In the gospel we see Peter who opts for the life giving words of Jesus and in the first reading we see him really using the life giving words of Jesus to heal the sick and raise the dead (Acts 9:34, 40). Peter uses the same words of Jesus: “get up and make your bed,” to heal the paralytic and “Tabita,” to raise the dead. The words of Jesus become life and spirit in his ministry. The Risen Lord who was active and alive in the ministry of Peter is also active and alive today as well. Let us also say with Peter: “Lord to whom can we go? You have the words of eternal life” (Jn 6:68).
