Reflection: Here are two perspectives of life contrary to each other: viewing with things from above and belonging to the earth. Jesus identified himself with the first perspective. He boldly spoke about it both to his enemies (Pharisees) and to his secret disciples (Nichodemus). He emphatically said that he came from God and that He is sent by him and is loved by him. On his part he would utters the words of the one who sent him. It is not by his accord that he speaks, but only by the Spirit given by the Father. He who believes in the Son has eternal life; he who does not obey the Son shall not see life. Jesus vindicated his claim through his resurrection, on account of which then he commanded his Apostles, to preach the same. Hence the Apostles were so drawn into the heavenly perspective, that they were undaunted by any of the earthly power and authority. So much so that they openly told the upholders of earthly perspective: “We must obey God rather than men”. When they heard this they were enraged and wanted to kill them. But the Apostles were least bothered about such threats which came from the earthly power. Which perspective would I opt for? Would I live by it with such a determination even as to die for it?
